Farm: livestock housing hygiene and manure composting

Spray housing 2–3 times a week at 1:5 to 1:10 and compost manure in layers over 8 weeks.

Housing hygiene is the first condition for successful cattle, poultry or sheep production. Beneficial microorganisms interrupt putrefaction in the building and turn manure into quality fertiliser instead of a source of odour and insects.

Hygiene where animals are kept

Prepare the solution according to the type of production, ventilation and building design, then spray the whole space with a hand or motorised sprayer using a fine mist. Animals and feed do not need to be moved during treatment.

  • better indoor climate
  • less odour (ammonia, hydrogen sulphide, methane)
  • fewer fly larvae and other insects
  • harmful bacteria suppressed and better manure quality

Manure composting

Manure left in a heap for a year putrefies, releases ammonia and hydrogen sulphide and can carry pathogens. Composting under controlled conditions with beneficial microorganisms is faster, without putrefaction or odour, and keeps the nutrients.

  1. Prepare the baseClear the area of debris and grass and lay 10–20 cm of organic material (straw, maize stalks, leaves).
  2. LayersSprinkle with rock dust and spray with the preparation, then add a 30–40 cm layer of manure. Repeat to a height of 1.5–2 m.
  3. Top layerCover the heap with 10–15 cm of soil. Moisten dry material with each layer.
  4. TimingComposting takes about 8 weeks, and the compost matures in 4–6 months.

Farm waste and wastewater

Treating waste and wastewater reduces odour and flies around the farm and limits environmental impact. Choose the preparation (eMB Aktiv, eMB Balans) and quantity together with the EM Plus team, based on the type and volume of waste.
